Scholarships That Can be Obtained while Studying at USU – USU was inaugurated by Soekarno as the 7th state university in Indonesia. The date of this inauguration was later designated as USU’s Anniversary which was celebrated every year until 2001. At the suggestion of several members of the university senate, USU’s anniversary was reviewed. The senate finally decided that USU’s anniversary would be set on August 20, 1952, which is when lectures first started. With the approval of the Department of National Education, 2002 was celebrated as USU’s 50th Anniversary. In 1959, the Faculty of Engineering in Medan and the Faculty of Economics in Banda Aceh were inaugurated by Soekarno. Then in 1960 in the same city the Faculty of Medicine and Animal Husbandry was founded. At that time, USU consisted of seven faculties, namely five faculties in Medan and two faculties in Banda Aceh. Over the course of its life, various development programs implemented have brought a lot of progress that has been achieved, making USU develop to what it is now.

Currently, USU manages more than one hundred study programs consisting of various levels of higher education, which are covered in 15 faculties and one postgraduate program. During its development, several USU faculties turned into their own state universities, namely Syiah Kuala University in Banda Aceh (from the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Husbandry), IKIP Medan State which has now turned into Medan State University (from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education) , and Medan State Polytechnic (from USU Polytechnic). The USU campus is located in Padang Bulan, Medan Baru sub-district, Medan, with an area of ​​120 ha. The 90 ha academic zone can accommodate almost all student lecture and practicum activities. The learning system is supported by library facilities and more than 200 laboratories. The library provides various types of learning resources, both in print and electronic form.

Padang Bulan Campus has information technology infrastructure to facilitate access to various information and knowledge resources to support the learning and research processes of students and lecturers. Apart from that, on campus there are also various facilities, such as dormitories, sports arenas, guest houses, cafeterias, shops, banks and post offices. Graduations and various other academic events are held in the auditorium and student arena. In 2008 a teaching hospital was built on the campus site. A new campus covering an area of ​​300 ha located in Kwala Bekala, 15 km from the Padang Bulan Campus is being developed. The campus is used to support various research and experiments in the fields of agriculture, forestry, plantations and animal husbandry[5]. In an effort to develop itself as a wide-reaching university, USU manages an experimental garden covering an area of ​​around 550 ha in Langkat. USU has also obtained permission to develop a 10,000 ha pilot forest in Mandailing Natal.

Medical facility

USU has health facilities in the form of the USU Teaching Hospital, Polyclinic, and USU Dental and Oral Hospital. All USU health facilities can provide services to the general public with adequate medical equipment. USU RSP provides various health services, such as outpatient care, inpatient care, Emergency Room with 24 hour service, operating room, delivery room, intensive care, hemodialysis services, and medical rehabilitation. USU RSGM consists of eight clinics, namely the Orthodontics Clinic, Oral Surgery Clinic, Prosthodontics Clinic, Conservation Dentistry Clinic, Oral Disease Clinic, Periodontics Clinic, Pedodontics Clinic, and the DHE Clinic/Department of Public Dental Health Sciences.

Transportation

USU provides transportation facilities in the form of buses, or often called Lintas USU, to help students move to other faculties or buildings that are far away. Apart from that, USU also provides bicycle facilities that can be used by USU students and teaching staff.

Auditorium

The USU Auditorium Building is the largest building on the Padang Bulan Campus. This building can accommodate more than 1,500 people. The USU auditorium is usually used for various major campus activities or events, such as student graduations, USU Anniversary commemorations, and scientific seminars. This auditorium can also be used for outside community activities, such as school graduation events.

Religious Facilities

USU has churches and mosques on campus to facilitate the worship activities of campus residents. Apart from that, USU also has religious room facilities that students can use to carry out various religious activities.

Library

The library is a very useful facility for students. In the library, students can read, do assignments, and look for various references from books, theses, journals, and other available sources. USU has a central library which provides a fairly complete collection of books. In addition, each faculty at USU has its own library.

Hostel

USU provides dormitories located not far from campus. This dormitory is equipped with various facilities, such as wardrobes and mattresses. To live in this dormitory, students need to register at the Chancellor’s Bureau or come directly to the dormitory head. This dormitory is prioritized for new students and students receiving bidikmisi and affirmation scholarships. This dormitory can also be used as a temporary residence for exchange students or USU competition participants.

USU provides various sports facilities to support the physical activity of its students. Through this sports facility, students can channel and develop their hobbies and talents.
